Personal Property Calhoun County

On Friday July 27, 2007 the OPS Team set up at an undisclosed location in Calhoun County for a nightly investigation. A report had come from a resident near the location of a possible haunting. That resident was entering the back door of his home when he reportedly heard someone say his name a few times. According to him, he turned around to see what appeared to be a shadowy “figure” standing in the edge of the woods behind the home. It was never determined by him who or what the “figure” was. After telling the story to a family member, it was brought to his attention that a death had supposedly occurred in those woods in the early 1980’s.

We arrived at the location at around 7:30 PM and set up two infrared video cameras, which were linked to our computer in order for monitoring purposes. One camera was focused on the area near the edge of the woods where the “figure” was seen, and one was pointed in the direction of the area where the death had reportedly taken place. A digital voice recorder was also placed near the area where the “figure” had been seen by the witness. As usual, members took initial temperature, barometric pressure, EMF (electro-magnetic field), and other readings so that we could compare any changes throughout the night.

Over the next several hours we focused our efforts both around the area of the sighting of the “figure” and near where the death reportedly occurred. During this time we took several hundred digital photos and numerous hours of audio from digital devices carried by investigators.

During the investigation a few members reported personal experiences including strange feelings and sounds. However, the most significant event of the night happened while a few investigators, accompanied by the person who witnessed the “figure”, were doing EVP (electronic voice phenomena) work near the spot where the death supposedly occurred. One investigator was asking the possible “spirit” certain questions in hopes of getting a response, while the other two team members were monitoring temperature and EMF readings. Throughout the EVP session the EMF meter stayed at a reading of 0.1. However, after one particularly sensitive question about the possible death, the EMF reading suddenly rose to 0.8 for a moment, then dropped back down again. Going on the assumption that the sensitivity of the question may have had something to do with the EMF spike, the investigator asked an even more sensitive question. Immediately after that question the EMF reading rose to 1.6, and then dropped back down to 0.1 again.

While it was very interesting that those particular questions were followed by the fluctuations in EMF readings, it should be noted that several other attempts at asking those questions resulted in nothing. Furthermore, there were no other significant EMF or temperature changes the rest of the night. Those couple of EMF “spikes” were the only changes recorded.

As far as photo evidence is concerned, the only interesting images that we caught were of strange lights that showed up in a few pictures (see photos below). These small lights were not characteristically similar to those of typical orbs, and the only ones caught were near the area where the death supposedly occurred. One was taken directly at the death area, and a couple were taken while on the railroad tracks that lead to the area. We are currently attempting to examine the light photos more thoroughly to see if we can determine any natural cause for them.

Later in the night (or earlier in the morning) one investigator did record what appears to be a females voice (see audio file link below). No one heard this voice at the time, and there were only two females present during the investigation, neither of their voices match the one that was recorded. We can’t say for sure exactly what the voice is saying. Interestingly, earlier in the night, the resident who witnessed the figure claimed to have heard a female voice say his name while near the spot where the death supposedly occurred. Whether or not the two occurrences are related can not be determined for certain.

The investigation ended at around 2:00 AM Saturday morning. Nothing noteworthy was caught video throughout the night.

NOTE: Though several people who have lived in that area for many years told us that a death did occur in the woods where our investigation took place, no official records have been obtained as of yet to officially confirm the event.
